The winners of the MARGA Online Competition 2020/2021 have been announced!

After an exciting and eventful two-day live final, the winning team of this year’s MARGA Online Competition has been announced! Congratulations to Team 21 from WAF, the continuing education academy at Nürtingen-Geislingen University (HfWU)!

In the grand final on May 27 and 28, the remaining 4 finalists of the competition met virtually for the first time and delivered an impressive performance. In a close head-to-head race, the last period of the competition was finally played. WAF’s Team 21 came top of the group with a lead of 35 million euros. However, after a strong race to catch up by the other teams, things got really exciting once again.

Back in April, the four best teams in the 2020/2021 online business game competition, which were able to impress with their successful teamwork and well thought-out competition strategies, qualified for the final round:

Team 21: WAF Continuing Education Academy

Team 22: WAF Further Education Academy

Team 2: ENNI Energie & Umwelt Niederrhein

Team 4: Schott

The four finalist teams were confronted with a completely new, challenging situation in the final round. They now had to put the management skills they had learned to the test once again. As usual, the first four decision-making periods were held online over the last few weeks. Due to the coronavirus restrictions, the live final could not be held as a festive in-person event this year as usual. Therefore, as in the previous year, the final took place as a large online event spread over two days. Here, the members of all four teams met virtually for the first time and presented their companies and teams. The decisions for the final and decisive period were then made in virtual teamwork within a tight time frame.

At the ceremonial conclusion of the competition on May 28, all MARGA Business Simulations employees and the four finalist teams were joined by representatives from the partner companies ESMT Berlin and the Handelsblatt Media Group as well as 13 guests of honor from the respective companies to support and celebrate their teams. As the teams were international and came from countries such as Brazil and the USA, there was a live broadcast across national borders.

In the end, Team 21 from WAF came out on top of its strong competition with a 13 million euro lead and took top spot on the podium.

“MARGA shows complex interrelationships in and around a company in a playful and risk-free way. It challenges and encourages entrepreneurial creativity for successful management in a highly competitive environment. Winning the business game was the crowning glory of a long and varied journey – digital game-based learning at its best.”
