Happy Birthday, MARGA!

Every milestone birthday should be celebrated accordingly! Therefore, due to its 40th anniversary in 2011, the MARGA Business Simulation offers an opportunity for a short review of its success story and its creators. Above all, we also want to look ahead at an innovative and sustainable development of overall future learning concepts.

When in September 1971 MARGA was launched as the first German Business Simulation, it was already booked by a remarkable number of 486 teams. Back then participants still wore broad ties, horn-rimmed glasses and they used pencil and paper as well as calculators which were the size of today’s laptops.  Since then, year after year altogether far more than 100.000 employees have faced the challenge of being a board member of their own MARGA-company. At first they came only from national companies, but a short time later MARGA was also well-established and international companies also took part.

A whole lot has changed since then. Learning methods such as Distance Learning and Blended Learning have changed the educational landscape. Nowadays the teams simulate their company from their own PC’s from all over the world. For this purpose they use the MARGA platform with its integrated Web conference module, the Web-based Trainings and the relevant tutorial notes and literature references. Furthermore, if necessary, specific learning contents can be intensified within a two-day in-class seminar.  

Despite all the changes, the core content of MARGA remains the simulation as such, as it illustrates quite plainly and clearly overall company reality. Even in the past the simulation already oriented itself on realistic company situations and current market conditions. The game conception is still the driving force, because it arouses the curiosity, play instinct and motivation in each participant – sorry – manager.  In fact, it easily integrates and conveys the boring economical basics and business management topics.

MARGA has been established for more than 40 years on the market of further and higher education and it is ready to face the future. Numerous customers continuously register their teams each year and every now and then one encounters a manager, who with a little smile, reports of his attendance at MARGA ‘way back then’. We wish to thank our customers and at the same time we look forward to all our future MARGA rounds, however small the laptops may turn out to be by then.

MARGA Business Simulations - Management training for high potentials and executives

MARGA Business Simulations is a General Management training in which the participants manage all departments and functions of a simulated company in teams. This strategic simulation is suited to gain an overall entrepreneurial perspective. Participants get to know management skills and have to apply their knowledge within the game. Being a General Management business simulation, MARGA imparts interdisciplinary perspectives which enable participants to gain insights into all functional areas of a company: marketing, production, finance and controlling.

Besides the classic talent management it is possible to apply MARGA into the framework of change management to show changes and make them easily comprehensible. Not only to accept the changes but also to support them actively.

The approach of MARGA Business Simulations ensures a unique transfer of knowledge to thinking and acting in an entrepreneurial way.
